Architectural Associate
Born in Michoacán, Mexico and raised in Houston, Texas, Otilia believes in the importance of learning from a variety of cultural experiences in order to grow. She received her Bachelor of Architecture with honors from the University of Houston in May of 2019. Her final project named Refugee City in Ecuador was selected as one of the top ten projects from the graduating architecture class. The work demonstrated in the project earned Otilia an invitation from the University of Houston to travel to Hong Kong, China in March, 2020 for an exhibition at the International Art Fair where part of her Refugee City project was exhibited.
As a student, Otilia studied abroad in summer 2018 where she traveled to Iceland, Norway, and Denmark. Throughout her journey, she studied, documented, and researched the legacy of modernism and its dedication to sustainable design in Northern Europe and Scandinavia. The project she developed that summer will be published in the yearly COAD student book CW6.
Otilia seeks to continue learning and reinventing herself and her work, from the natural and the human environment. She finds a balance in life through family, futbol, soccer, music, and dancing. She has been a choreographer and a licensed Zumba Fitness instructor since 2012. She has taught classes in Mexico and the U.S, where she has helped participants achieve a happier and healthier lifestyle.
